A brief document of what you should know about Cyprus.
The Weather
The rainy season in Cyprus lasts between October and December and it is the time of the year that everything turns green. Winters are short, but they are cold especially at night. Between December and February the mountains are covered with snow so if you plan to visit Troodos call the Platres Police Station at 25823018 before you leave to make sure that the roads are open. Regardless of the time of the year, always remember to take warm clothing with you on this trip. Cyprus is at its best in the spring when the weather conditions are comfortable and the countryside dresses in dazzling colours and a spectacular array of wild and rare flowers. Summers in Cyprus are very hot and lasts from late April to September so make sure to drink plenty of water and use adequate sun protection.

Protect yourself from the sun: during the summer months avoid exposing yourself in the sun for a long period of time particularly between the hours of 11.00 to 16.00; wear sun screen even on overcast days (re-apply as often as possible) and don’t forget to do the same with the children.
Fire hazard: During the summer months in particular, the Cyprus countryside is very dry. Do not throw cigarettes out of your car windows; use only the designated barbecue/picnic sites; remember that glass reflect the sun and can cause a fire to start so do not throw bottles in the countryside; immediately report any fire you see by calling 1407.
