The mining activities which faced out the forest in the area began in 1904 and ended in 1988, as a result of the international campaign against the use of asbestos. A government initiative which was completed in 2008, turned the area into a geological park. The small settlement of Pano Amiantos is today abandoned.

Almirolivado and Kampos tou Livadiou Picnic Areas: on the way to Troodos Square. Both sites are signposted.

Mnimata ton Piscopon Nature Trail: The trail provides magnificent views of the Solea valley and takes you to an area above Kakopetria. The trail is 8 km long.
