A brief description of Askas village.
A skin-bag maker, Manolis Askas, was the first settler in this exceptional village with the cobblestone narrow allays and adjacent houses which are built with local stones. The filming location for many popular local television series today, the village was known since the Venetian times as ‘Asta’. The inhabitants of Askas cultivate various fruit-trees, vines, vegetables, hazelnut, walnut, olive, and almond trees.
What to see:
- Agios Ioannis Prodromos(St. John the Baptist): look for the sign on the main road. Open by request by the priest of the village. The church still has some of its original 16th century wall painting.
- Cyprus Tourism Organization Park: The park is located close to the church of Agios Ioannis Prodromos. You can relax next to the creek and enjoy the absolute quiet.
