From Riches to Rags
It is supported that in 1672 real ice cream was offered by England’s King Charles II and that only royalty around Europe could enjoy it, as its production was not that easy. It is also interesting the fact that ice cream back then was consumed instantly after it was made since it was impossible to store it. Common people only begun enjoying ice cream during the end of the 19th century when recipes were carried by immigrants and processes of production were simplified.
Making Ice Cream
Initially ice cream was made into the so called pot freezer which basically was a big ice cream bowl located within a tube which was full of ice and salt used for lowering the temperature. The hand crank ice cream maker with the help of technology was developed into an enclosed bucket which had a handle attached to the lid. Then the hand-cranked churn appeared which made softer and smoother ice cream in less time. Ice and salt was still used for the low temperature. Nowadays you can find manual ice cream machines varying in ease of operation and type.
