Learn to communicate

Life was simple when we were young. Back then we had no biases, we trusted people and we had no hidden agenda in our dealings with others. Back then, we didn’t hesitate or doubted our instincts; we looked life in the eyes with courage and optimism, and we pretty much did what we wanted to do. As we got older our life became difficult. We started to doubt our instincts and our judgment. We started playing mind games so we could get what we wanted, and when we encountered difficulties we worked long hours or drank too much to avoid dealing with our problems. When we failed, we ate comfort food and bought things we didn’t need so we would feel better. As time went on, our life became complicated and even more difficult. But life doesn’t need to be so complicated. Read in this article 25 things you can do to simplify your life.

1. Learn to communicate

Since we have to live, work and socialize with other people we need to learn to communicate more effectively with others. Rather than assume that others can read your mind, and instead of trying to read the minds of others, tell other people what you think, what bothers you and what you want, and ask other people to tell you what they want.

2. Nurture the relationships that are important to you.

Each one of us is unique and interesting because we think, react and do things differently. Usually we gravitate towards people who are similar to us and we generally get along well with those who think, react and do things the same way we do. Some people are by nature so different that they have nothing in common. So accept this reality and don’t waste your time trying to become friends and get along with everybody. Instead, nurture the relationships that are important to you and stay away from people who have a negative effect on you or bring out the worse in you.

3. Do what you know is right

It doesn’t matter how hard you try, there will always be someone who will not approve or be pleased with what you do. So do what you know is right and don’t try to please everyone around.

4. Let others fill your gaps

Each one of us is born with a special skill or talent and each one of us is good at doing one thing or another. None of us, however, knows how or has the ability to do everything. So surround yourself with people who are able to do things you cannot do and let them do what they do better, and you do the stuff you are good at doing.

5. Be yourself

Don’t pretend that you are someone or something you are not. You risk losing yourself in the process.

6. Live your own dream

Each one of us has a purpose in life and we will walk the path that will help us to fulfill our purpose. So don’t waste your life living someone else’s dream.

Be true to yourself, live your life according to the values and beliefs, walk your own path and live your own dream!

7. Apologize when you are wrong.

Accept that you are not always right (no one is ever as right as they think) and apologize when you should.

8. Ask for help

No one knows how to do everything, or how everything works. If you are not sure how to do something or how something works ask someone who knows for help.

9. Stick to your budget and saving plan

Don’t buy things you don’t need or can’t afford. Live within your means, create a saving plan and a budget and stick to them. When you are buying something big, like a car or a house, sleep on the purchase.

10. Be open to new ideas and learn new things

Learning is a life-long process. Be open to new ideas and always strive to learn new things.

11. Celebrate your achievements

Don’t wait for the big victory to celebrate because you may be waiting for a long time. Instead, add up and celebrate all your small achievements and victories.

12. Excel at what you do

Don’t be a mediocre. Whatever you do, be it a project, a sport or learning a craft, work hard and excelled at it.

13. Learn from your mistakes

The only sure way to avoid making mistakes is to do nothing. But then we would learn nothing and achieve nothing. So laugh about your mistakes, learn from them and move on.

14. Don’t start too many projects and don’t undertake too many tasks at the same time

Finish one project before you start a new one. If you start too many projects at the same time, you will not be able to give each project your full attention. At the end you may not be able to finish any of them and you will be disappointed. For the same reason, it is better to do one task at a time and give it your best.

15. Don’t compete and don’t be jealous

Be happy with what you have and what you have achieved and don’t spend your time competing and being jealous of other people.

16. Don’t be a drama queen

The truth is that nobody likes or takes seriously people who overreact and exaggerate every little incident and create drama to get attention. So don’t be a drama queen and don’t get involved in your friends’ and other peoples’ drama.

17. Change is the only sure thing

Always remember that it doesn’t matter how bad or good a situation is, it will change.

18. Let go

Accept that there are situations and things that you cannot control or change. So let go and focus instead on the things you can control and change.

18. Do not try to control and change situations and things that you can not

Accept that there are situations and things that you cannot control or change. Rather than trying to control and change situations and things that you cannot, focused on what you can control and change.

19. Learn something new

There is always something new to learn, new information, a new skill, how to play an instrument, a new language, how to scuba dive and a million other things. So don’t be afraid, be curious.

20. Be open to new ideas and opportunities

If you stubbornly cling on to old ideas you may be left in the past and if your attention is focused on missed opportunities you will not be able to see the new opportunities. So explore new ideas and look for new opportunities. There are always there and everywhere.

21. Take care of yourself

Don’t expect others to care for you if you don’t love yourself enough to care for you. Clean up after yourself, look after your health, exercise and eat when you are hungry and not when you are bored. If you are sad or mad reach out to a friend or go for a jog/walk instead of reaching for a drink or taking recreational drugs.

21. Look after yourself

If you cannot love yourself enough to look after you, don’t expect others to love you more than you and to care for you. Clean up your space, take care of your health, exercise and eat when you are hungry, not because you are bored. When you feel sad or angry, seek out the company of a trusted friend or go for a jog instead of drinking or taking drugs.

22. Maintain the things you rely on in good condition

Don’t wait until your car breaks down and can’t get to work or take the kids to school to take your car for service and don’t wait until the basement is flooded to call the plumber to fix a leak. Avoid these kinds of disasters and emergencies that complicate your life by keeping your car, house and other things you rely on in good condition.

23. Don’t be a pack rat.

Organize your space and get rid of stuff you don’t use of need.

24. Give yourself enough time

Get enough sleep every night (a tired mind is not productive) and always get up 30 minutes earlier so you don’t have to rush around like a mad person. This will help you avoid speeding tickets and being late for work and appointments and will make your day less stressful.

25. Say 'I love you' to your loved ones

Because most people have difficulty saying 'I love you' to our loved ones, we convince ourselves that our loved ones know how we feel and know that we love them and there is no need to tell them. People need to hear it! So say 'I love you' more often and you will hear ‘I love you’ more often.
