This is the second part of the article to help you become a song writer.
- Find the Hook
All great songs have a unique part that captivate us and makes us listen to them over and over. That unique part of the song we cannot get out of our minds is called the hook and is often found in the chorus; usually a song derives its title from this hook. There is no formula for hooks, however, so we can tell you how to find the hook for a song. All we can say is that you will know when you have one. A hook does not have to be in the lyrics; it could also be a musical hook, such as the tune that comes to your mind when someone mentions the song ‘I can’t get no satisfaction' of the Rolling Stones.
- Make adjustments for a smooth transition
If you produce parts that don’t quite connect, you need to create a smooth transition from one part to the next. You do this by putting all the pieces in the same key and adjust gradually the speed where there is a sudden change in tempo. Also, you can add instrumental interludes which will make the transition from one section to another more smooth. If after trying all these the parts of your song still don’t fit together, then they don’t belong together.
- Ask your friends for feedback
After you write a few songs, ask your family and friends to listen to your songs and tell you their opinion. Listen carefully and try to improve your songs.
Write with others! Writing your songs alone is always easier, but if you don’t feel inspired, ask someone to help you.
