Choices, choices: figuring out where to study abroad can be really challenging, especially if you’re starting your quest from scratch. Here are some tips to narrow it down for you:
- If you’re planning to go on a student exchange program, first thing to do is find out where you can apply. Pick a dozen or so universities, then narrow the list down.
- Do the colleges that you’re interested in, offer the courses you want? What language are lessons taught in?
- Consult an education adviser to find out the requirements for the programs you’d like to apply for. Do you need to take an SAT test, for example? What is the minimum grade point average required?
- Do some research about the country (or countries) you’re considering. What’ s the cost of living? What about the tuition fees, or price of accommodation? Last but not least, is the exchange rate favourable?
- Make living arrangements before you leave: can you find someone to sublet the flat you’re living in now?
- What kind of place are you heading to? The hustle and bustle of a major city, or a laidback countryside scene? What sorts of activities are there available?
