‘Intelligence’ consists of several different elements, but you don’t have to be a scientist to do some simple things for a quick ‘brain fix’.
1. Keep your mind busy: reading books and periodicals, solving puzzles and tackling logic problems all help exercise your grey matter.
2. Diet: You must have heard the one about how eating fish makes you “smarter" it’s no kids’ tale, but actually true. Certain foods and beverages increase blood flow to the brain, and can improve short-term memory. Caffeine is good, but not too much of it.
3. Sleep well: scientific evidence shows that the quality of sleep is just as important as the quantity. Try to get around eight hours of shut-eye every night, helping your brain rest and reset.
4. Cut the booze: alcohol actually destroys brain cells, so you might want to keep consumption to a minimum.
5. Have babies: this one applies to the ladies, obviously. Pregnancy and childbirth enhance a woman’s perception and memory, partly due to the effects of the hormone oxytocin, which is released during labour. Oxytocin has considerable effect on problem-solving, a key component of intelligence.

6. Exercise and productive leisure: physical activity can get the blood pumping enough to give your brain a jolt. Or listen to music, preferably classic music, believed by some scientists to cause the so-called Mozart Effect in your brain.
