YouTube started in 2005 by 3 early employees of PayPal. YouTube is now the leader in online streaming video, sharing original videos with everyone, for free, by allowing people to open an account and upload their own videos.

1. YouTube was bought by Google for $1.65 billion.
2. This moment, YouTube has more than 140,000,000 videos.
3. More than 200,000 new videos are uploaded each day.
4. The income that Google gets from YouTube is minuscule.
5. YouTube costs Google over $1,000,000 daily in bandwidth costs, an amount multiple times bigger than the annual national budget of many growing countries.
6. Untill the beginning of 2008, there was a huge problem with the site utube.com which was overloaded due to the fact that many people where typing utube instead of youtube. The owner of the domain sued YouTube. The case ended with an out-of-court settlement.
7. There are 22 countries which have their own localized version of YouTube with more to follow. Greek is also in the plans.
8. During 2007 YouTube consumed such bandwidth as the whole Internet did in 2000. Things show that this will continue to rise!
9. You can see a large amount of the videos on YouTube in a higher resolution just by adding “&fmt=18” at the end of the video’s URL. The video will be shown in 480x360 resolution.
10. More than 150,000,000 videos are viewed per day on YouTube.
