Okay, we did not consult Fidel Castro on how to get the ultimate enjoyment from a cigar; however our short research found the following 10 dos and don’ts about cigars.
- Don’t inhale the smoke; it is unhealthy and it will shorten your life span.
- Do let your cigars to age for a few months before smoking them. After buying your cigars remove all packaging and store them into a humidor. If you buy single cigars from your tobacconist they may have already been left to age and are ready to smoke immediately.
- Don’t place back into the humidor a piece of cigar you haven’t finish smoking. It is better to throw it out, or leave it in a cigar saver to smoke it later.
- Do choose a drink with your cigar that will not loose its flavour because of the flavour of your cigar.
- Don’t cut the top of your cigar with your teeth; you will ruin it. Use a cigar cutter instead.
- Do light your cigar with a butane lighter, or a wooden match - you should first let the sulphur of the match burn off.
- Don’t put out the cigar when you finish smoking by pressing it in the ashtray; it will leave a very strong, nasty smell. Instead, let the cigar go out by itself by leaving it in the ashtray.
- Do try samples of various cigars before you decide on your final purchase. You can find samples on sale, or online.
- Don’t put your cigars in the fridge; the low, cool temperature will take away their moisture and dry them out.
