The last time I went to buy myself a digital camcorder I found myself standing in front of the display case with numerous models each one with different capabilities and applications and of course eventually I left without buying any. I went home and I said that first I am going to answer myself the following three questions and as soon as I know what I really need and why I am going to go and get it. And this is what happened. Here I give you those 3 Questions you need to answer when buying a digital camcorder.
- Question No 1: Which format should I choose?
Well depending on your priorities and needs you will choose the format that suits you the best. The three main formats you will find when it comes to camcorders are MiniDV, DVD and HDD with each one having its pluses and minuses. In general you should be aware that the MiniDV is the cheapest, then DVD allows easier sharing and quick playback and finally the HDD allows vast storage capacities. - Question No 2: For what do I need my camcorder?
If you basically like using you camcorder when you are on holidays or other special occasions such as parties and events like that that require simple operations and quick shooting then you will not go for professional camcorder. Then other things you should consider are indoors or outdoors shooting, with sunlight or not and also if you will be using that camcorder for taking pictures as well.

- Question No 3: How much do I want to spend?
It is true that the more you move closer to the cabinets the more the features and higher the price becomes. However as soon as you decide on your budget you can start examining camcorders up to that price range and then choose which model you want.
